KINGSTON Council has endorsed the final concept plan for the $1 million upgrade of Roy Dore Reserve at Carrum.
Mayor Steve Staikos said the concept plan had been developed following extensive community consultation in October 2009.
"The park upgrade plan includes an upgraded playground, new facilities such as barbecues, picnic shelters, new pathways, improved car parking and extensive landscaping," Cr Staikos said.
"One of the outcomes of the consultation was the inclusion of an indigenous planting corridor between Myola Street and Graham Road.
"The concept plan includes the provision for overflow parking around the east oval on match days."
The upgrade to Roy Dore Reserve will also involve the development of a second entrance along Dyson Road, which will improve traffic flow and safety around the reserve.
New paths will connect Myola Street to the reserve and playground at the western end of the reserve.
The existing roadway behind the southern pavilion will be closed to general motor traffic to improve pedestrian access and amenity.
"It was pleasing to receive more than 220 individual responses from the community with suggestions for the upgrade of the reserve," Cr Staikos said.
"Many of the suggestions have been incorporated into the final concept plan, which I am sure will be pleasing to those who helped shape the final design.
"The council recognises that the Roy Dore Reserve is a vital open space area for the Carrum community – it provides for sporting teams and recreational activities.
"Once the plan for the reserve upgrade is finalised, the works will start in late 2010," Cr Staikos said.
The final concept plan is on display in council offices and libraries and at Roy Dore Reserve until April 12.
