Paneful act of vandalism

15 Mar, 2010 04:32 PM
BURGLARS used railway ballast to smash plate glass doorways at two Chelsea shops to steal potato chips and soft drinks overnight last Sunday week.

They shattered the thick plate glass door of Chelsea newsagency in Nepean Highway to reach in and unlock it.

They then helped themselves to packets of chips in a rack near the door.

Apparently nothing was taken from the refrigerator containing soft drinks next to the crisps rack.

Nothing else in the shop was stolen. There is a refrigerator next to the crisps rack but it was left alone.

Nearby at the Riviera cake shop and coffee lounge the door was smashed and the thieves entered and stole soft drinks.

Nothing else was taken.

Detective Senior Constable Rob Eaton of Chelsea CIU estimated the damage at several thousand dollars.

Anyone with any information can call Chelsea CIU on 9776 2677 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
